WHAT'S V-GENERATOR

BASIC

POINT.1

Transforming Vibrations
into Practical Energy

LEDs can be illuminated, and wireless communication modules can be powered. It is also possible to generate watt-level power and store it in a battery.

POINT.2

Simple and Durable

There are no parts subject to wear, and it is highly resistant to temperature and temperature changes. If not subjected to extreme conditions, it can be used semi-permanently.

POINT.3

Converting Various
Movements into Energy

For example, impacts on objects, pressing buttons, the flow of wind or water, and various other phenomena can be used for power generation.

Power Generation Mechanism

The system consists of a U-shaped frame with a plate-like magnetostrictive material (iron-gallium alloy) attached, a coil wrapped around it, and a permanent magnet placed in the center. The power generation principle is as follows: when a weight is attached to the tip and fixed to a vibrating object, the inertial force acting on the weight causes it to vibrate up and down. This vibration deforms the frame, and alternating tensile and compressive forces act on the iron-gallium alloy. At this time, due to the inverse magnetostrictive effect, the magnetic flux of the alloy changes, and an electromotive force is generated in the coil according to this change in magnetic flux.

MEMO

To use machinery and equipment for a long time, it is necessary to grasp their condition and maintain them. For this maintenance management and predictive maintenance, various sensors are used. For example, machine malfunctions are caused by wear and tear or cracks in parts, appearing as rising temperatures or changes in vibration. Knowing these changes allows for failure prediction and countermeasures. Recently, with the spread of IoT, there has been an increase in cases where wireless sensors are used for data acquisition. However, the battery life management and replacement of these modules are challenges. On the other hand, most machines that malfunction vibrate. V-GENERATOR solves this problem by converting the vibration of the machinery into a power source.

MEMO

Bridges, tunnels, roads, and water pipes in Japan are experiencing aging. Maintenance management and inspection of long-lasting infrastructure are challenges to be solved in the SDGs. However, the budget and manpower available for this are limited, making it difficult to solve the problem. On the other hand, bridges vibrate due to vehicle traffic. By using V-GENERATOR, it may be possible to extract practical power from this vibration. This power source can be used to periodically obtain the sensor data needed for inspection remotely. In other words, once set, it may simplify inspection work.

Alerting Surroundings to Danger

LEDs can flash with movement or impact, and wireless transmissions can also be made. This alerts drivers and helps reduce traffic accidents.

MEMO

Nighttime accidents occur when cars come into contact with pedestrians or objects. Can't these accidents be prevented by alerting drivers in advance? The V-GENERATOR can make LEDs flash in response to vibrations from shoes, alerting drivers to the presence of pedestrians. Additionally, simple actions like impacts, pushing, pulling, or tapping can generate power and transmit wireless signals remotely. In this way, the V-GENERATOR can be used to raise awareness, notify of accidents, and alert to potential dangers.

Alerting with Movement

For a Convenient and Secure Life

Sends sensor signals with slight movements. Allows for monitoring, security, facility inspections, and management without worrying about batteries.

MEMO

With V-GENERATOR, depending on the idea, you can send sensor data with just a little movement. For example, pressing a button or opening a door can be converted into a power source, and in addition to the on-off movement, temperature and humidity data can also be transmitted. This is possible because of V-GENERATOR. Once set, there is no need to worry about batteries. There are various applications, such as simplifying monitoring (heat shock, heat stroke) and inspection tasks and efficiently using equipment.

05

New Energy

Achievable on a Different Scale

Generates watt-level power. Aims to utilize untapped energy with an unconventional approach.

MEMO

Energy is the most important issue to be solved in achieving a sustainable society. On the other hand, there are still untapped energies in our daily lives, production activities, and natural phenomena. These include vibrations and movements, such as the movement of healthy people, the vibration of large machinery like cars, and the power of waves. V-GENERATOR generates electricity directly from vibrations and reciprocating motions, not through the conventional principle of rotation. Moreover, the power generated is proportional to the volume. By increasing the size, more power can be generated. This unconventional approach challenges these untapped energies.

Notice

There are many vibrations and movements around us that can be used for vibration power generation. When considering applications, first think about whether these vibrations or movements are sufficient for practical power generation. To put it extremely, energy cannot be obtained from something that does not move. Similarly, it is difficult to generate power from slow movements. Whether the vibration or movement is continuous or intermittent is also important. Even if the vibration or movement is sufficient, if it only occurs intermittently, it is difficult to operate a load that requires constant energy. We often get asked, "Can it charge a smartphone?" It can't. Also, driving modules that require large power cannot be done without significant vibration. On the other hand, if the work rate of vibration or movement (input energy) > load power (consumed energy), the principle and system will work. Please keep this in mind when considering whether to apply.

When there is no power supply nearby, or if it's difficult to use (for instance, using AC100V as a power source for small modules can be challenging. Long wiring is required.), or when battery replacement or charging is not possible or inconvenient, the advantages of vibration power generation become evident. However, if solar power is sufficient, please prioritize it. There is no need to insist on using vibration power generation. The V-GENERATOR can generate power not only from vibrations but also from small movements, shocks, or flows depending on the structure and mechanism. Furthermore, the voltage generated by the V-GENERATOR corresponds to the vibration or movement. Therefore, the device can also be used as a simple vibration or motion sensor. By serving as both a power source and a sensor, it can simplify the system configuration. For example, door power generation can also serve as a sensor to detect door movements. The V-GENERATOR has various applications. Please consider its application.

We lend device samples to those in the 'education sector' who have a specific research plan. If you can tell us about your research plan and intended use, we will decide whether to lend it to you based on that information. However, in the case of students, a 'borrowing form' must be filled out by a person in charge such as a teacher.
